Another One Bites the Dust
My daughter was burning up with a fever last week. Another one bites the dust. Every couple of days, someone else in our house has gone down with the flu.
The Long Stretch
The gap between New Year’s and Spring Break might be the hardest part of the year, especially when you are dealing with sick kids.
I was exhausted. I still am as I write this. It has been a long stretch of not feeling normal.
The Questions Get Louder
Questions start to surface like: Can I keep going? When is there going to be a break?
If you, like me, have ventured into entrepreneurship, these questions do not go away. In some seasons, they only get louder.
How do we endure through a storm that feels relentless?
How do we find hope when, in many ways, it feels like there is none?
Ash Wednesday and a Reminder of Hope
This week, Ash Wednesday gave me a timely reminder of the hope that is coming at Easter.
What Is Lent
If you are not familiar, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a season when Christians around the world choose to practice prayer, fasting, and repentance. It leads us toward the remembrance of Jesus’ death and the celebration of his resurrection on Easter.
For a quick but more in-depth look at Ash Wednesday, here is a video our church shared:
Where My Hope Actually Comes From
In the middle of frustration, exhaustion, and on my worst days, a lack of hope, I can return to the Savior who came to earth to pay a debt I could not pay, so that I might become a child of God.
In my lowest moments, I know this is true.
In the midst of coughing, fevers, aches, and pains, I know this is true.
In the middle of business opportunities not going the way I want them to, I know this is true.
Jesus died to save sinners like you and me. His finished work is where we place our hope. Not in innovative strategies, not in my effort, not in medicine, not in relationships, not in money, and not in anything else. Only in Jesus.
Two Questions for This Season
My prayer for you during Lent is that you would hold tightly to hope. Seek God. Make time to reflect on his work in your life. This can be as simple as taking ten minutes to start your day and be in God’s presence.
As you reflect, here are two questions I have found helpful:
What is one thing that, if you removed it from your life, would help you draw closer to God?
What is one thing that, if you added it to your life, would draw you closer to him?
Try This During Lent
Consider using this season of Lent to give up what you have found is holding you back, and replace it with what draws you closer to him. Try it, and see what changes in your relationship with God.
Final Thoughts
“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
